Sugar Creek Rehabilition

On Monday April 18th, The Chaska City Council graciously approved a Conditional Use Permit for the Sugar Creek office complex in downtown Chaska. This action has allowed us to move forward with theinterior renovations required to make this site suitable for a new 28 bed residential treatment program scheduled to open in the Fall of 2011.

As a 501 (c)(3)non-profit organization, we are seeking outside support in raising funds for this project. Not only will this allow us to continue to offer the most affordable treatment in the State of Minnesota, it will also provide services to individuals that may not have access to this higher level of care.

As the original office and stable for the original tennant, Carver County Sugar Company these facilities built in 1906 are filled with rich local history.

Construction of the sugar plant began in 1905.  This was the home of Carver County Sugar Company from 1905 - 1915.

The two structures outlined in red are the future homes of Five Stars Recovery Center's residential treatment program.  This photo taken on top of the sugar plant shows the structures as they existed in 1912.

The building in the front of the property was the sugar factory's main office where the day to day business was managed.  After a hard days labor, the field hands would go into this office to be paid their days wages.  The concrete 14 x 10 foot vault is still protected by a solid 16 inch steel safe door.  Though Five Stars Recovery Center will not have a need for this vault, it will remain intact in an effort to maintain the historical integrity of the building.

The rear building was the factory's stable that housed the live stock used in the sugar beet fields.  The interior of this structure has been renovated over the years and has been the offices of many different types of businesses.

This photo shows the sugar factory as it was in 1916.  In 1916, The Carver County Sugar Company was acquired and operated by    Minnesota Sugar Company.  Minnesota Sugar Company operated the plant and fields from 1916 - 1925.

This overhead photo of the Minnesota Sugar Company shows the Future home of Sugar Creek Inpatient treatment center.  From the center bottom portion of the photo up to the left corner is the long abandoned Chicago Great Western Railroad line.  Outlined in red, the complex was thriving I the sugar beet industry as evidenced by the large piles of beets about the facility.

As you can see, the times have really changed this landscape. The beet fields are now replaced with townhomes, a gas station, many other business and Stoughton Avenue was not even paved.

This photo is also outlining the future inpatient treatment center's location.  Additionally, the former HWY 212 (Now Chaska Boulevard) was completely undeveloped.

This is a 1965 photo of the American Crystal Sugar Company. In the foreground, the Sandy Acres neighborhood is clearly seen. Notice the additional silos now located immediatly to the right of the sugar factory. The Minnesota River can be seen behind (south of) the factory.
